Thinking about Joining the National Guard

This incident was before my time, and before the vast majority of new recruits for sure.

But.

It's still a concern. The National Guard should guard the nation. Protect the nation. That's not what happened.

Seven years before I was born, on today's date, members of the Ohio National Guard fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.

Call it a shooting. Call it slaughter. Hell, call it a massacre.

Just consider what you might be responsible for before you join a military organization.

This wasn't before my time, I remember it well. I was pretty young, but it left a sadness in my heart. It was time of unrest in the country. There was a cry against the "Establishment". As well there should have been. Having said that, my heart was broken for both sides on that fateful day. I couldn't imagine being one of those guardsmen. It must have been horrible for them, to realize what they were a part of. It was just horrible for everyone.
