Happy Belated Wednesday

So yesterday I sprained my ankle. Late in the day, so I have no excuse for not posting during the many hours before I sprained my ankle. We planned a nice trip on foot to the shops on Woodstock. I was tired of waiting for the cars to stop and was going to walk to the edge of the bike path. However, the drain great combined with sneakers with crappy ankle support brought me down.

It's extra frustrating because I managed to get a lumbar strain about a week ago, and had been feeling a million times better - more like my usual semi-invincible self.

I thought about calling in. But I'm tired of sitting around really. I managed to take the recycles and the trash out this morning. If I can do that, I can probably work.

However, I do have wedding related pictures for ya. CAKE!!! Delicious, delicious cake from Pambiche.

We couldn't pick just one. We were originally going to go with Pambiche's Tres Leche's cake, but that was before the cake tasting that I didn't think we needed. Ha! These two won out. The mango one was a hit.

I really really recommend you eat at Pambiche if you haven't yet. It's casual and bright, super delicious, reasonably priced... The only thing I don't like about the restaurant is that it's kind of small, and you can't roll up there with a crew of more than 6 really easily.

ok, i'm bad

i'll start on my plan next week.

today, it was hot.

i went to the bybee farmers' market. bought some stuff. strawberries, 'cause the two to three a day we've been getting from the front yard plants isn't enough. also green onions (i donno why, i've got a bunch in the fridge already), and some chives. Also some lemon cuke starts because my starts failed to ... start.

weeded and pruned the overdue for pruning roses.

picked the mustard and spinach that went to seed. rules be damned, i'm gonna eat it! or at least the non tough parts.

held my chickens a bit. they tolerate it much more at dusk. i want them to be used to it. they were so sweet and let us hold 'em all the time when they lived in the brooder. now, they're anti-parent teenagers, sneaking in the garage to smoke. okay, minus the smoking. but they totally do sneak in the garage if i have it open. they are naughty and evil during the day. reverse gremlins. also, i've been complaining about the fairly mild heat. but the girls, they're losing feathers. not bad, they all have good coverage. but the backyard is LITTERED with black feathers, stripey feathers, fluffy white feathers, downy gray feathers. you'd think i had a whole massive flock of chickens. i don't.

what else. that's about it, i guess. i'm about to hop in the bath, 'cause i'm a bit stinky after the day's events. i bought some REALLY good smelling soap at Limbo. It's made by Camamu, and it's right here. It smells great, has a lovely texture, and makes me feel kinda soft, even in the hands after a long day in the garden.

Caturday Issue One: the Postcard

I love House of Vintage. Everyone just calls it House. A very large store on SE Hawthorne, it has dozens of sections divided by seller. Each seller rents a small portion of the store, prices their wares, and gets a discount, I think, on their rent if they work a couple hours a week as the cashier and general straightener of the store.

I found this in the Gorey section:

The clickable image will take you to ClassicoSanFrancisco.com where you can peek at hundreds of other postcards and neat stuff, maybe buy a thing or two if you find something that tickles your fancy. I'm including the link just in case you can't make it to House yourself.

Also, remember when Francis Slugbane was so little? Here she is in her awkward pre-teen stage. I need to get a better shot of her yellowy eyes.

Christmas in October

I gotta bounce soon, but two things have made today awesome so far. Three things.
1) Space Monkey coffee.
2) My craftster swap partner ellen-j made some really cool washcloths for me.
3) I received a prize package from GypsyPUNK. Check the blog list to the right, and click on Hired under the crafty blogs. I'm wearing one of the pairs of earrings now. GypsyPUNK had made some really clever jewelry out of some really interesting objects.

I'll post more later! To work I must go!!!

Mocking Bird... first attempt at Wedding Invites

Our wedding is May 23rd, 2009, so I've got the better part of a year to get things planned and done, but a lot of our folks are coming from out of town/state. We're trying to give folks a lot of warning, so I've been working on the invitations already.

I cut and cut and recut and lined up and recut and relined up and STILL have to figure out the right phrasing, but at least we've got a basic layout that we like.

I really like that green. We're gonna have black and gray as our colors, with a bit of off-white, that green, and maybe one other accent color.

The plan is to glue down a piece of paper with the details, like in the picture, with a RSVP card slipped in on top that they can remove and send back. Once folks tell us they can come, we'll send 'em a second invite, with lists of local hotels and delicious restaurants and by then, we'll have all the details (well, the major details like where the reception is) down.

BTW, the stamp is from Collage on Woodstock.
