Don't pat yourself on the back too hard, america.

We finally have a mixed race president-elect. So we suck a little less.

Prop 8 in California appears too close to call. It will amend the state constitution, writing in a hateful limit of marriage to heterosexual couples only.

A similar amendment passed in Arizona, and it looks like Florida was going to approve their own version of hate.

Maybe worse, Arkansas voters said yes to screwing over orphans and foster kids, disallowing unmarried couples from serving as adoptive and foster parents. Supporters of the bill made it clear that gay folk were their target. Apparently they'd rather have kids with NO parents. Arkansas, I am disappointed.

Nebraska voted in a ban on race- and gender-based affirmative action. Apparently there is no racism anymore in Nebraska. People aren't turned down for jobs based on a "black sounding" name, in Nebraska. Nebraska must be a mecca for progressiveness since they don't need affirmative action anymore. meh. Nebraska, you need to read more.

So we still have hate, discrimination, and racism that we, as a nation of states are saying yes to. Yes, in the year 2008, we finally voted in a guy that's not a white male. But it's not yet time to declare ourselves redeemed.
